Jennie (Jie) Gao

For better or worse, Jennie is (delightedly) obsessive over details. The trait accompanied her from Duke University to Harvard Law, from corporate litigation to domestic violence prosecutor. Perfectionism, with all its problems, is in my DNA.

She now applies the same devotion to precision and quality to Versine.

The Versine journey started with Jie’s pregnancy. Pre-pregnancy, she based my skincare choices on celebrity endorsements. Then, her baby was in the uterus and cue the compulsive research. Like many other women, she learned that numerous cosmetic ingredients, even “natural” ones, are not recommended during pregnancy and nursing (or even beneficial, for that matter).

As she researched further, it was just so confusing. Each brand had its own standard. Their articles and blogs offered opinions with little to no support, and it was hard to discern the facts even when specific data did exist. She felt frustrated by the lack of clear guidance and options. There had to be a better way… On the last day of 2019, I took the plunge and left my job to create Versine.

Now, Jennie creates skincare products in consultation with medical doctors and cosmetic formulators (because Google search is fine, but trained experts are better).

Versine products are high-quality, effective, multitasking, and suitable for all stages of life, including pregnancy and nursing.

Because assessments of the safety and efficacy of many skincare ingredients are incomplete or inconclusive, we adopt a conservative approach to ingredient selection. When doubt exists, we leave it out, considering ingredient concentration and interactions.
